Kids love Kinderflute! What better way to introduce your child to music than through games, music and active learning? Join me this May half-term from May 29th to June 2nd at the Loft at Little Dippers on Upper Gardner Street. Each class is 45-minutes in length from 2:45-3:30 and includes the use of a Nuvo TooT flute and Pneumo Pro to use for the duration of the course. The course is only £25 for 5 lessons (regular fee: £45) and includes one free individual lesson. Visit the Kinderflute page for more info!
I was watching this year’s first episode of Gardener’s World on Friday and especially enjoyed Carol Klein’s interview with legendary gardener Beth Chatto. One line in particular really stood out for me. Beth, who is now 94, said, “It’s the achieving that’s the fun, not the achievement. I can’t get up in the morning and feel a lot better because I’ve got an O.B.E.” To which Carol continued, “But you can get up and feel better when you see your garden?” “Absolutely!” Beth replied. I couldn’t agree with Beth more. If we, as musicians, focus really intently on the achieving then maybe we too might win an O.B.E., but ultimately it is making all that beautiful music in the first place that is worth so much more. So, play on and keep achieving!
Just finished making some fun technique bags for two of my students who will be taking ABRSM exams later this year! Each bag has colour-coded note cards for each of the scales and arpeggios the students need to know, as well has 36 different ways expressively practise them!
Two Kathys: Kathy Blocki and me!
Just got back from an amazing week in the Netherlands where I attended Kathy Blocki’s fantastic KinderfluteTM 2017 teacher training course. So many inspiring ideas to bring home to my students! Keep an eye out on my website for upcoming KinderfluteTM intro classes I’ll be organising and leading for children aged 4 and up in Brighton!
Congratulations are due to mother and daughter flutists, Tina and Eryn, for successfully completing their first ABRSM exam! They both passed with flying colours and played brilliantly at the Winter Recital. Congrats to Rona as well! Rona successfully completed her Grade 3 ABRSM exam and is currently working towards preparing for her Grade 4 exam! I am one proud teacher 🙂
What fun we all had at our Winter Recital! Little Baby was very well behaved, except when she tried to steal the chocolate bars I had ready for our performers…. during a performance! Thank you Heather for being very understanding and for cheerfully starting our “Away in a Manger” duet again! Well done to everyone for the excellent performances you practised so hard for. You all played so professionally! We also raised almost £30 for Cardiac Risk in the Young. Thank you and all the best in 2017!
Belated (but much deserved) congratulations are due to Kate who completed her ABRSM Grade 5 exam last December just before my little one was born. Kate worked very hard indeed and her efforts landed her a much deserved Distinction!

Wow! What a year it has been! My husband and I welcomed our little child into the world as 2015 drew to a close and we couldn’t be prouder parents!
Three of my students have also completed ABRSM exams recently and all of them have received Distinctions- another cause to celebrate. Evening and weekend lesson times are currently available for September 2016 lessons so please feel free to use the Contact page to send me a message should you be interested! All ages and levels welcome.
